  13. INTRODUCING XING TECHNOLOGY

  15. Xing Technology Corporation, is an active participant in the international
  16. committee that established and defined the JPEG and MPEG standards. Xing
  17. develops, licenses, and applies data compression technology to multimedia

  35. INSTALLING THE XINGIT! MPEG PLAYER DEMO

  37. 1 Open the Windows Program Manager and choose "Run" from the "File" menu.
  38.  
  39. 2 Type "D:\SETUP"( if CD-Title on drive D) and click the "OK" button. MPEG
  40.   Movie Player setup program start.
  41.   
  42. 3 Add the pathname of the installation directory to your environment's
  43.   PATH variable.

  46. STARTING THE XINGIT! MPEG PLAYER DEMO
  47.  
  48. The Xingit! MPEG Player Demo includes a Windows MPEG Player (DMFW.EXE)
  49. and a DOS MPEG Player (MPEG.EXE).
  50.  
  51. NOTE: Version 1.1 of the Xingit! MPEG Player can not play MPEG files
  52.       containing interframes ("B" and "P" frames). Version 1.2 of Xingit! 
  53.       will support MPEG files containing interframes.
  54.  
  55. 4 Double-click the "Xingit MPEG Player" icon to start the program.
  56.   The XingIt! MPEG player appears.
  57. You can now use the Xingit! MPEG Player as described in the programs' on-line
  58. help.

  60. To run the DOS version of the player (MPEG.EXE), change to the directory
  61. that contains the MPEG.EXE program and issue the following command:
  62. > MPEG MPEGFILENAME.MPG
  63.   Where "MPEGFILENAME" is the name of an MPEG video file.
  64. To see a complete usage description, issue the following command:

  68. BOOSTING VIDEO PLAYBACK PERFORMANCE
  69. The Xingit! MPEG Player uses a Windows Bitmap driver to communicate with your
  70. PC's video hardware and quickly playback video data on your computer's monitor.
  71. This Device Independent Bitmap (DIB) driver is active by default, so the Player
  72. works with any Windows-compatible video hardware. To achieve even faster playback
  73. of video sequences you can disable the DIB driver and use one of Xingit's direct
  74. drivers. These high-speed drivers communicate directly with many popular video
  75. boards.

  77. To disable the Xingit! MPEG Player's DIB driver and select a direct driver:
  78. 1 Make sure "Use DIB" item is unchecked in the Player's "View" menu.
  79. 2 Choose an appropriate entry from the "Video Driver" item in the Player's
  80.   "View" menu.
  81.    If the player recognizes your PC's video driver, it displays your driver's
  82.    name at the bottom of the "Video Driver" menu with the label "Detected."
  83. 3 Choose "Save Xingit! Preferences" from the "Preferences" menu.

  86. MPEG Player (actual compatibility has not been tested with all of the listed
  87. boards and is assumed):

  116. If your PC's video driver does not appear in this list, you must use
  117. one of Xingit!'s device independent bitmap (DIB) driver.
  118.  
  119. NOTE FOR USERS WITH COMPAQ Q-VISION VIDEO
  120. The Xing Video drivers embedded within MPEG320.DLL & MPEG160.DLL
  121. are compatible for operation with the Compaq Advanced VGA, with which
  122. QVision boards are backward compatible. But, you cannot use
  123. QVision Windows drivers with our video file. Rather you must ensure
  124. that the Advanced VGA driver is installed for the QVision adapter board.

  126. 1 The Windows video driver installed via the windows SETUP icon should
  127.   first be changed to the CPQAVGA.DRV driver. If this cannot be done
  128.   within the SETUP program of Windows, you must accomplish this by
  129.   manually editing the SYSTEM.INI file:
  130.     Look in SYSTEM.INI and locate the parameter
  131.       display.drv=QVISION8.DRV
  132.     and change it to
  133.       display.drv=CPQAVGA.DRV
  134.   Using the display driver disk supplied by COMPAQ, locate the file
  135.   CPQAVGA.DRV and copy it to the \SYSTEM subdirectory of your \WINDOWS
  136.  
  137. 2 Using the COMPAQ supplied utility program CPQSETUP.EXE it will be
  138.   necessary to assure that the D/A converter (DAC) is selected to 8-bit
  139.   operation.

  141. 3 Within the Xingit! MPEG Player Demo program, use the menu to select
  142.   the Xing Video driver for Compaq
  143.     select:   View - Video Driver - Compaq AVGA.
